About Me

I am a lawyer, teacher, scholar, and a passionate advocate for social justice. I am affiliated faculty with the UCSF Bixby Center for Global Reproductive Health, with an appointment in the UCSF School of Nursing.

I am also a doctoral candidate in Medical Sociology in the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences at the University of California San Francisco.

My scholarship and advocacy focus on abortion access; respectful maternity care; contraception, sterilization, and eugenics; health care systems and reform; health disparities; and gender equity.

Teaching & Mentorship

I taught at UC Hastings Law from 2010-2019.  Courses included reproductive health, rights, and justice; global health law and policy; international and comparative health law; women’s health and the law; legal ethics; and professional responsibility.

I also taught courses in the UCSF Global Health Sciences Master’s Program and UC Berkeley Law, and have been an invited lecturer in the UC Berkeley School of Public Health on multiple occasions.

Legal Work & Consulting

My consulting practice focuses on laws and regulations governing pregnancy care (abortion, prenatal care, and midwifery).

Abortion Law & Advocacy

I co-founded the California Abortion Alliance in 2007. I served as the Founding Director from 2010-2021.

I am a member of the California’s Future of Abortion Council.  In December 2021, the FAB Council issued a Report with 45 policy recommendations to protect and expand access to abortion in California.
